Exotic and tropical Costa Rica is the dream destination for not only eco and adventure tourists, but for families and honeymooners alike. Among the most naturally beautiful places on earth, this tiny Central American country has all the ingredients to make a vacation here the ultimate getaway. Fiery volcanoes, beautiful beaches, lush rich jungles, plenty of exotic plant and animal life, and a rich history, make Costa Rica the prefect retreat for those looking to have a good time; be it relaxing on the beach or taking a canopy tour high above the rainforest.

There are a huge variety of places to stay at in Costa Rica, with accommodations to suit every budget. However, it is a good idea to make hotel reservations, especially during the high season that lasts from December to April. An advance reservation ensures that you will have a room ready upon your arrival, and will make your vacation an even more pleasant one. Easter Week, New Year’s Eve, Christmas, and weekends during the dry season are also key peak travel times, so it is highly suggested that you book a room in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

Indeed, most beach and mountain lodges are booked several weeks in advance for popular holidays like Christmas and Easter. During Holy Week, nearly all the main cities are shut down, as most locals hit the beach. Hotel rooms can also be hard to get if there is a local festival or celebration going on in town, so do remember to check the calendar and then book your stay. Private lodges, all inclusive resort and expensive hotels in particular, especially in remote or secluded areas should always be reserved in advanced to avoid any hassles.

For a more high-end beach vacation the Golfo de Papagayo is the ideal place to stay. This area is home to the Four Seasons, the most expensive hotel in Costa Rica. However, if you are looking for a more affordable beach vacation, hit the gorgeous beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula, where hotels and resorts to suit every pocket can be found.

A good time to avail hotel discounts is during the rainy season in Costa Rica, lasting from around April to late November. But do keep an eye on the fact that you are charged a mandatory sales and tourism tax of 16.39%; this is a normal practice. Also remember that Costa Rican hotel and room rates are cheaper than their American and European counterparts; and though the rooms maybe smaller, they sometimes offer the most spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

For those who are looking for budget accommodations in Costa Rica, cabinas are the perfect choice. Usually large rooms with a number of beds and sometimes offering a private bath, staying here is easy on the wallet and the accommodations are neat and clean.

One important tip before booking a hotel or resort in Costa Rica is to properly check out the hotel, its location and its facilities. You can do this by comparing the reviews and rates of several different hotels by using our Customer Review section. This will give you a good idea of what to expect from a particular hotel.
