San Jose will keep you close to all of the action, the daily activity, and the major tourist attractions. Whether you are staying here simply to take some extra time to explore, or because you want an authentic experience of Costa Rica living, you’ll be able to find accommodations in San Jose.

While hotels are definitely available, and might seem like the most popular choice, you should also consider getting a vacation rental. These are available in the downtown area, right near all the action, and close to the Juan Santamaria International Airport. These areas are a great alternative, because they will allow you to get more for your money, but keep you close enough to San Jose that you can still experience the urban life in Costa Rica.

If you want to go even more tranquil for your vacation rental, you can stay in one of the quaint towns that the San Jose province offers, such as San Gerardo de Dota, San Ignacio, Ciudad Colon and San Isidro.

It is recommended that you reserve your vacation rental at least three months before your trip, and sometimes even as far out as six months before your trip. Peak tourist season in Costa Rica starts around Christmas and runs through April, and the city can get pretty crowded in those months.
