Vacation Deep in a Jungle Paradise at the Bosque del Cabo Rainforest Lodge

Whether you’re seeking the thrills of exploration and adventure, the soothing atmosphere of a romantic getaway, or the unforgettable experiences of seeing exotic animals in their natural habitats, the Bosque del Cabo Rainforest Lodge in Cabo Matapalo has everything you need for a truly incredible vacation!

The boutique style hotel is located in South Puntarenas in Southern Costa Rica, on the tip of the gorgeous Osa Peninsula that’s home to the Corcovado National Park.

This tropical paradise teeming with incredible natural surroundings is only improved by the many comforts Bosque del Cabo provides, including a pool with a surrounding deck and bar, a restaurant serving delicious authentic dishes, a gift shop with local crafts, relaxing outdoor spa treatments, and countless opportunities for fun activities like horseback riding, snorkeling, surfing, and boat tours.

Bosque del Cabo is especially notable for providing an experience you can’t find anywhere else in the world. It is one of the most unique hotels in Costa Rica thanks to its fortunate location on hundreds of acres of Osa Peninsula forest reserve, making it the perfect jungle getaway for those looking to hike, explore, escape the crowds and get in touch with nature. Additionally, the rooms are nestled on the cliffside of Cabo Matapalo, providing easy access to the sea and breathtaking ocean views from every bungalow.

Additionally, Bosque del Cabo operates in harmony with nature thanks to its foundational principle of forest preservation, making it one of Costa Rica’s best eco lodges. Since 1990, the hotel has assisted in local conservation programs and worked to provide its guests with incredible accommodations that don’t endanger the surrounding jungle. Rooms and other buildings on the property are decorated in a rustic style, using natural materials like wood and thatched roofs that blend in seamlessly with the rainforest.

Given its secluded location, Bosque del Cabo is an incredible spot for couples on honeymoon, but it’s also quite far from the city, at about 390 kilometers (242 miles) south of the San José International Airport. However, if you don’t want to take the 6-7 hour drive yourself, you can ride a charter bus or take a domestic flight to Puerto Jiménez. Either option allows you to take in the view on your journey.

Bosque del Cabo, Rainforest Lodge
For those of you who have experienced Bosque firsthand, here's a chance to relive your experience. For those of you who haven't had the chance to come, here is chance to imagine what could be.

Rooms

The rooms at Bosque del Cabo are designed to put minimal barriers between guests and the great outdoors without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

All accommodations have electricity, hot water, and daily maid service, and most are just a short walk away from the on-site restaurant and pool.

Cabinas

Cabina rooms come in classic, deluxe, and deluxe with loft styles, with the main differences being room size and beds. Classic cabinas have two double beds, while the deluxe rooms are larger with one king bed. Deluxes with lofts have an additional single and double bed.

Regardless of the style, cabinas come with all the same natural furnishings and amenities. They are constructed with screened windows and tropical hardwood walls, and feature an indoor bathroom, an outdoor garden shower, fans, easy chairs, and a hammock.

Most cabinas face the ocean, but there are also cabinas in the hotel’s Tropical Garden which face the rainforest instead. Note that these rooms are surrounded by rainforest on three sides and open with mosquito netting. At 550 meters from the main lodge and restaurant area, they are perfect for those looking for more privacy but recommended only for those that are comfortable walking the distance along a 300 foot long suspension bridge hanging 75 feet above a magnificent creek.

Rental Houses

If you’re traveling with the family or another big group, rental houses are a convenient way to house everyone in the same property. These are standalone buildings with their own bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms. There are four rental houses all with their own style, these being Casa Teca, Casa Blanca, Casa Miramar, and Casa Coco.

Casa Teca is located in the Tropical Garden, and it includes one bedroom and one bathroom. Casa Blanca is a little larger, with two baths and two bedrooms, one with a king bed and another with two queens. There’s also a step-down sundeck and a wraparound porch that faces out toward the ocean.

Casa Miramar is the largest rental house, with three bedrooms connected by floral pathways, two bathrooms, a patio, and a small private pool.

Casa Coco is smaller but newer, with two king bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a wrap-around deck, and a porch overlooking a pool.

Bungalows

In addition to full rental houses and cabinas, the Bosque del Cabo Rainforest Lodge offers three bungalow-style lodging options. These are Vista Mar, Aracari, and La Orquidea.

These bungalows are designed for additional privacy and luxury, with interiors designed to resemble houses. They include private indoor and outdoor bathrooms, porches, fans, king beds, and mosquito netting, and offer great views of the ocean or jungle.

Activities

Explore the Surrounding Rainforest

Bosque del Cabo’s ideal location in the remote heart of the jungle makes it the perfect spot from which to experience all of Costa Rica’s natural beauty on adventure tours and cultural excursions. Head outdoors to kayak down a river and tour a National Park, all while encountering unique species of birds and other animals native to the jungle.

Corcovado River Kayaking And Mangrove Estuary Bird-watching

Those seeking adventure during their vacation should try their hands at kayaking down the Corcovado River and Mangrove Estuary.

During the tour, you’ll traverse the river, getting in some light exercise as you make your way down to the estuary where mangrove trees rise from the water. Paddle in between these trees as you take in the sights and sounds of the jungle.

The river kayaking tour is a great opportunity for wildlife photography, especially if you’re interested in birdwatching! There are dozens of different types of eye-catching birds waiting to be discovered, some of which can only be found among the mangroves, making this an unforgettable experience.

Kayaking a Quiet River in the Most Bio-Diverse Area of Costa Rica

If you’re interested in kayaking but you seek a more laid-back experience focused on highlighting the plants and animals native to Costa Rica, try kayaking in the highly diverse Sierpe Terraba Mangrove complex. The river is calm, making it suitable for first-time kayakers, and also giving you more opportunities to soak in your surroundings as you travel through an ecosystem like no other in the world!

This tour takes you through a mangrove forest with a knowledgeable guide who can direct your attention to the many species that call the jungle their home. It’s a great opportunity to see hundreds of unique species of birds, dolphins, sea turtles, reptiles, monkeys, and more, making for an unforgettable experience perfect for any animal lover.

One Day Tour to Corcovado (La Leona Station) From Puerto Jiménez

Corcovado National Park is one of the biggest tourism spots of the Osa Peninsula, and for good reason; it is one of the most biologically diverse places in the entire world. Explore the National Park and take in all the plant and animal species on display on a tour of Corcovado, starting at the La Leona Ranger Station.

From the station, you’ll have the opportunity to go on a day-long hike throughout the national park. Be on the lookout for a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat, from curious monkeys and docile tapirs to brightly-colored parrots and exotic wildcats. If you’re looking to stay active on vacation while exploring the jungle, this is the tour for you!

"My husband and I have traveled most of Costa Rica and enjoyed a wide variety of adventure, climate, culture, flora and fauna. But, by far, Bosque del Cabo is our favorite lodge. I never thought I would find one hotel that I truly look forward to coming to over and over; as a matter of fact we get homesick for the place (and the friends we have made there). It's truly remarkable if your goal is to see birds, animals, tropical plants/gardens amid rustic luxury. The cabins overlook either the Pacific or Golfo Dulce, with trails in both directions. The staff is friendly and eager to please; the owner's love of the land is evident. You just must go to experience it yourself."
