Overview
Rancho patio at Cristal Azul
Providing privacy and relaxation in Playa San Miguel, Costa Rica, Cristal Azul only accommodates about a dozen guests at a time, making it the perfect spot for people who truly want to get away from it all. Just steps from the cabins is The Rancho, where guests can relax, mingle or grab a bite to eat. This area provides gorgeous views of the jungle, ocean and town below, not to mention gorgeous starlit nights that you'll never forget.
Most guests love pulling up a chair and reading their favorite book or magazine as they feel the ocean breeze and listen to the howler monkeys that surround the property. Some prefer to be more social, which is why Cristal Azul provides puzzles and games at The Rancho. There is also a private bar and a professional billiards table.
Would you prefer to go for a swim? A vanishing edge pool is just a few feet away from the common area. The infinity pool features a gorgeous sun deck with breathtaking views of the ocean below, a tropical pool shower, and daybeds and hammocks that allow you to catch a mid-afternoon nap after your swim. Nearby, a hillside yoga deck provides space for you to relax, clear your mind and meditate. The yoga deck also provides hammocks and other outdoor seating areas.
When you're feeling hungry, Cristal Azul provides a couple of options. You can grab lunch at the Cevicheria LocosCocos, which specializes in fish and seafood dishes served under shady palm trees. You can also find Sunday brunch specials, live music and much more here. Your other option is farm-to-table gourmet dining cooked by a private chef who plans meals with the guests each day. Breakfast, which includes Costa Rican coffee, eggs, cheese, bacon and much more, is casual and served as you wake up. Lunch includes light fare that replenishes your energy for the day's adventures. Dinner is a three-course, candlelit meal served by the pool. Some favorites include coconut shrimp, white clams in garlic and white wine and tenderloin with the house dry rub.
Other amenities at Cristal Azul include wireless internet throughout the facility, a Bose stereo with iPod hookup, and a private, gated setting with no public access. The owners live on-site and can always assist you with planning activities and adventure tours.
Cristal Azul offers four villas that provide a rustic, charming vibe. Oversized windows overlook the Pacific Ocean and the gorgeous town below, and handcrafted teak furniture and artwork by local artists add an authentic Costa Rican feel.

"We are a small US family that has traveled to this incredibly beautiful part of Costa Rica several times now, and we always return to Cristal Azul. Playa San Miguel is such a special place, and so unique, and nothing compliments it better than this little hotel up on the hill. It is small, but that is what is so special. We have the privacy of a luxury home rental with the service of a five star resort. Food is amazing, dont bother eating out except for snacks on the beach. No nightlife in the area to speak of, except local watering holes that are OK, but the rancho is perfect to hang out in. The beach can get buggy at night but not up on the hill which was is really nice, especially with children. Owners are beyond helpful, your own private tour directors on site. They also have everything you need for the beach, it makes it so easy to travel as family. And they even help us with our other travel arrangements in the country and have never given bad advice. You cant go wrong here!"

"Just had the best vacation at this hotel! Cannot stop talking about how incredibly beautiful the area is, how cool it is to have this little hotel all to yourself, and how kind everyone that works there is! We only left to go to the beach and play in the waves and then it was back to the rancho for good times and the best food we had while in the country! Tried some local places but seriously, nothing compared. Rooms were great, very very clean and open with great views. No bugs, a huge plus! Felt incredibly safe which was important to all in our group. Privacy like you would not believe! Owners on site and handling everything for us...great service! Overall amazing time and I highly recommend this place to anyone! "

"My husband and I had a blast at Cristal Azul! We loved the rooms, the views, the food! It has to be one of the nicest places we have ever come across, a true gem! Had a great time fishing with the owner on his boat, caught dinner! Spent most of the time being lazy by the pool but did manage to rent some kayaks. Perfect plact to relax at end of an adventure filled vacation, with enough to do to keep you busy. Excellent beach! Outstanding hosts!

"Fabulous place that we found by accident one day several years ago and we return every time we visit Costa Rica! The owners could not be nicer, the rooms are perfect, and the breakfasts speak for themselves. The view is also one of the most impressive we have ever seen. A wonderful, wonderful spot!
