Get away from the crowds and enjoy the secluded paradise of El Remanso Lodge on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Within an hour's drive of Puerto Jiménez, this sustainable-focused lodge offers luxurious yet natural accommodations amid the rainforest and adventure tours that give you unforgettable experiences.
Overview
Vainilla Patio Ocean view
If a secluded bungalow in a tropical rainforest is your idea of heaven, book your Costa Rica stay at El Remanso Lodge on the Osa Peninsula. In harmony with nature, the lodge is almost hidden by the forest itself on a 185-acre reserve. It sits above a quiet beach, located within an hour's drive of Puerto Jiménez.
The private reserve is part of the larger Osa Peninsula National Refuge, known throughout the world for the diverse wildlife found within its unspoiled borders. The lodge is committed to sustainability and complements its surroundings. It uses a compost system, treats its wastewaters and recycles whatever it can. The lodge also generates its own electricity with a small hydroelectric system.
El Remanso is small and owner-operated, which allows staff members to give you a personal and personalized stay. Guests have their choice of a room at the lodge or a private villa or bungalow, built with fallen timber from the reserve. Regardless of which you choose, you'll enjoy spacious accommodations with fantastic ocean and rainforest views. Laze in a hammock on the deck, take an outdoor shower and soak up the casual atmosphere amid the sights and sounds of a tropical paradise that reaches right up to your rooms.
Enjoy gourmet meals at a private table in the lodge restaurant, a chic bamboo structure with a deck that overlooks a forest canyon. Meals are planned to provide you with all the energy you'll need to enjoy an energetic day, with fresh seafood, a mix of local and international choices and fresh fruits and vegetables. After an active day, jump in the hotel pool and grab some drinks at the bar before dinner.
El Remanso offers an experience like no other, allowing you to discover the thrills of a private rainforest encounter. Hike the reserve's trails and uncover flora and fauna treasures such as brightly colored frogs, playful monkeys in the canopy and exotic birds, along with a variety of other wildlife. Along the way, you'll discover hidden waterfalls and pools lying deep in the rainforest. Or you can opt for exploring tidal pools and lagoons along the beach. There are many things to delight in here.

"El Remanso is a unique and very special place. There are simply not enough words to describe our experience. I could write a book.
My wife and I were so completely over-whelmed by such an incredible experience. The web site is very accurate. What we didn't expect- the food was excellent! I had to ask for reduced portions. Very fresh, unique but familiar. El Remanso exceeded our expectations by leaps and bounds! Meeting other guests was a great part of the experience, but still lots of private time for us and all meals were at our own table.
Strongly recommend El Remanso. If you want room service and air conditioning, then this is not for you. The open-air room was fantastic. The humming bird that came in for a brief stay was just a small part of the wonderful wild life. Never put one drop of bug spray on.... ya, its that good.
We will return.

"The best way to describe the hotel is “simple luxury”. It offers great views from the main lodge/restaurant, amazing sunsets and excellent for birding in the very early morning. All meals were included and the food was great, though I think they should serve larger portions. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The staff helped us make arrangements to do anything we wanted. The grounds are very nice – with several different trails to hike, waterfalls to visit and tide pools at the beach in front of the property. We saw lots of wildlife, including three species of monkeys and lots of different types of birds. We stayed in La Vanilla, which is one large cabin with an open shower area and a small water closet. The cabina was very clean and spacious. It had a deck with a hammock and two chairs. From our cabina the view was mostly jungle and a bit of the Pacific. The lodge is definetely a great place if you want to get away from it all!!"

"From the pick-up at the airport to the return to airport on the last day, the experience was incredible. Fantastic staff, all spoke English and made you feel like family. Food was delicious with a gourmet flair. Facility was beautiful and very comfortable. It is not for the non-outdoor person, but if you enjoy being surrounded by awesome beauty and nature then this is your place. Many outdoor activities or plenty of relaxation time as well.We spent 7 nights/8days and did not want to leave. This lodge truly represents what it's name implies-- A place of peace."

"El Remanso is an excellent place to stay in the Osa Peninsula. The management team make you feel welcome and appreciated; you feel like a guest at their home. The lodge is set in the rainforest and keeps in harmony with its surroundings. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and comfortable. It is the ideal place if you are traveling to get away from all of that and experience nature and a slower pace of life.
From the lodge, you can explore several of the nature trails around the property. Make sure you have your hiking shoes, water, sunscreen, and a flashlight if there is any chance you might not be back before dark. The trail to the beach is a bit steep, but you are rewarded with a deserted beach. From the beach, you can hike to an impressive waterfall nearby or visit the tide pools at low tide.
This place is perfect for a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, watching wildlife, and exploring the rainforest. Highly recommended."

"We booked our stay at El Remanso after reading through different forums and reviews of the lodge on the internet and we were more than satisfied with what we got! Amazing views from our room in casa poniente, long trails trough beautiful rainforest and very warm and welcoming staff and hosts. My husband and I enjoyed the birdwatching in the morning from the restaurant platform and the rappelling in the river was a great experience also. This was our third trip to Costa Rica and it was nice to see that in these days where lodges become more and more commercial oriented you can still find a place where you are being treated as a "guest"."

"Wow! The best place we have stayed so far in Costa Rica. My husband and I have been to this beautiful country 4 times now and The Osa Peninsula is definitely the best part of the country. El Remanso is 1 hour drive away from Puerto Jiménez on a bumpy road but it is worth th trip! The lodge is fantastic, big cabins, we stayed in La Vanilla and had the howler monkeys right in front of our terrace every morning. We are both birders and saw more birds here on the restaurant deck in one morning than on the whole trip. If you go there you should certainly check out the breakfast on the canopy platform. We will be back next time with our family! "

"El Remanso is absolutely beautiful. It was the highlight of our trip. My family didn´t want to leave,Great food, the new installations are fantastic. We were in Casa Pniente, my wife and I in one of the suites and my children downstairs in a regular bedroom. Both of them were very nice, large rooms, very clean with a great ocean and forest view. Sunsets from the terrace were a dream. The waterfall tour is exceptional as most of the hikes. The staff is sweet and very helpful. the managers speak 5 languages, including english, german and french which is very unusual in Cosat Rica. Everyone was happy so the atmosphere was very nice. We can not wait to come back. It is the most beautiful small scale place that we have been. I believe that they call this type of lodge boutique hotel. All the activities were perfectly organized and secure. We loved it. Thanks."

"I went to El Remanso last November and stayed there 4 nights. The lodges are an hour drive away from Pto Jimenez and close to Bosque del Cabo (a friend of mine went there and said it was nice also) and Lapa Rios.
Remanso is a great place with very nice cabins (I stayed in La Vanilla : perfect for couples!), nice hosts and the food was ok. The best however is the wildlife you can see at the place (lots of different types of monkeys & birds) as well as the tours you can do (specially waterfall rappelling!).
The place seems to be famous, MTV went there some months ago as well as Jeff Corwin..
