What good is a vacation if you can't be comfortable? When you visit Costa Rica, stay at a place where you can be yourself and enjoy it. Café Playa Negra welcomes the real you to its house, where you can relax and have the run of the place. This six-room house in Playa Negra is the perfect spot for surfers, adventurers and world-wanderers to kick back after a long day, or all day long.
The northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica is known as one of the top surfing spots in the world, and Playa Negra is included in the stretch of beaches frequented by surfers. Other, neighboring beaches include Playas Avellana, Junquillal, Tamarindo, Langosta and Grande. Surfers from beginning to expert levels find plenty to love about the waters here, which include point, beach and reef breaks.
Café Playa Negra is just a five-minute walk from the beach, which is just as nice for sunbathers as it is for surfers. Bodyboards are also fun, but the surf is typically too rough for swimming. Snorkeling and diving activities can be arranged, as well as a horseback tour of the coastline. An area shuttle is available to help you get around.
Just as well known for its food, Café Playa Negra offers a fusion of Peruvian, Costa Rican and Western flavors that it calls “pure vida fusion cuisine.” This “house of surfers” as its menus declares it, serves up some dishes that are just as tasty as the waves. Try a CPN salad with avocado, red onion, caramelized walnuts, pear and crostinis with goat cheese. Or sushi that features white marlin and homemade aji. Don't miss the fresh seafood dishes, including seared tuna steak with sesame seeds and homemade teriyaki, served with wasabi and mashed potatoes. Fans rave about these dishes on Facebook.
Some days are made for just hanging out, and you can do that quite comfortably at Café Playa Negra. Guests enjoy a large terrace furnished with cozy couches, hammock and cool-to-touch flooring. Read, sip a mixed drink or catch up on texts with complimentary Wi-Fi on the terrace. For hotter days, there is a beautiful swimming pool in a landscaped courtyard that offers a refreshing dip.
There are six rooms at Café Playa Negra offered as doubles and standards. With the doubles, you can choose a queen or multiple beds. Rooms have a welcoming air with cheery colors and comfortable furnishings. They feature high ceilings with large windows to allow natural and well-lit rooms.
Each room has a private bathroom with water pressure and hot water for showers. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the rooms as well if you want to post a selfie of the day's adventure. For those who enjoy a cool room for sleeping, you've got it. These rooms offer ceiling fans and air conditioning that work to keep you cool when you're indoors.
The hotel's overall decorating theme, described as “a rustic and cozy setting”, features art pieces and handcrafts from Central and South America. This look is carried through to the rooms, where you will find small touches such as plants, found wood, rocks and seashells collected from a variety of beaches in Costa Rica.
"When I hear that a friend is going to Costa Rica, I tell them to make the effort to go to Playa Negra, and most importantly eat at the Playa Negra Cafe for some awesome Peruvian food! I love their beautiful and simple rooms, very appropriate for the area. The Playa Negra Cafe is comfortable and beautiful, and located a leisurely walk from the beach, and it's convenient to the mercadito and other local businesses. Carlos and Andrea make Playa Negra feel like home to me, and I look forward very much to my next visit. "

"Hotel Cafe Playa Negra is a wonderful place to stop and stay. Not quite to the beach, Carlos and Andrea have built a charming place that is relaxed and feels like its on the beach but for the sound of waves crashing out front. To make up for that at night, there are videos playing on TVs and a large screen in the wall space not taken up by art work or pictures of the owner and friends surfing all over the world. The staff are extremely friendly and again, the family charms make the place special. The facilities are very practical. Spartan and built for abuse that traveling surfers can dish out, those seeking a 4 or 5 star hotel should look elsewhere. The food is very good, particularly the 'specialties' and judged to be a good value. Those who are seeking a relaxed place to stay, with a great surf atmosphere, friendly people, and a great experience should pay a visit. Make sure to confirm your reservations before you leave and upon arrival. I suspect surfers get preferential treatment(as they should!) "

"This place is awesome. There are many places you must see while in Costa Rica, this Is one of them. The atmosphere is tranquillo, and the menu is incredible. I have had the pleasure of staying in cabins in both rainy and dry seasons, and they were equally pleasant. Whether you are a surfer or just out for an adventure make it a point eat and stay here."
