Enjoy picture-postcard perfection when you plan a vacation at Hotel Punta Leona in Costa Rica. Pristine, white-sand beaches, crystal-clear aquamarine waters and lush tropical rainforest combine to bring you an idyllic setting that can be as tranquil as a beach at sunset or as heart-thumping as carving a wave or tackling tuna while deep-sea fishing. Punta Leone can be whatever you make it and the hotel offers a variety of options for whatever you choose.

Walk nature trails in the reserve, by night if you dare, with a guide to ensure you don’t miss a beautiful scarlet macaw or bright-colored tree frog. Visit a butterfly garden and drink in the sight of the deep blue morpho. Take a kayak tour or try boogie boarding, surfing or snorkeling off the beach.

Get active and stay fit while you’re on vacation with a variety of instructor-led classes such as tai chi, aerobics or yoga. If you want to enjoy your exercise, join one of a variety of tournaments, including water polo, ping-pong, water basketball and more. Soccer, tennis, beach volleyball and miniature golf are also available.

Stay fueled for fun with your choice of beachfront or rainforest restaurant, light poolside fare or steak and seafood grille that offers couples a romantic setting. When you’re ready for some time off from having all that fun, take advantage of spa services or swimming-pool lounge areas.

The hotel facilities may best be described as a small subdivision, with clusters of like facilities interspersed with resort amenities and restaurants. For example, four-unit apartment clusters are in the same residential area, with a condo building or two toward the side and some two-unit structures toward the back. A swimming pool, restaurant and chapel are also in this general area.

Roughly one-half mile away is a central area that might be considered a “community area/clubhouse grounds” with facilities that include tennis courts, swimming pools, an amphitheater and a mini-mart convenience store. There are also some cabana apartments and a restaurant here. The third main area, another half-mile or so further, moves away from the cluster design to allow villas and condos more privacy.

Selvamar

Selvamar has four-unit modules that share a courtyard. Chic interiors feature oversize windows and comfortable furnishings.

Standard – Overlooking a garden, this unit includes two double beds and a bath.

Superior – The same look and feel, with more spacious quarters and a large bath.

Apartments

Kitchens feature stove, refrigerator and tableware. There are separate dining and living areas.

Double Chalet – Small but comfy, this two-bedroom design features four double beds and two baths.

Arenas – A spacious apartment with two beds and two baths, spread over two levels. A terrace or balcony offers ocean views.

Leonamar Apartments

Leonamar is a short walk from the surf or a few steps from the swimming pool. Apartments include kitchen facilities, clothes washers and dryers and balconies or terraces.

Junior – Third-floor apartments with one bedroom, king bed, wall bed and private bath.

Deluxe - One bedroom layout with king bed, wall bed and two baths.

Senior – Two-bedroom designs with two king beds, wall bed and two baths.

Arrecife Apartments

Arrecife has separate pools for adults and children, plus laundry, restaurants, disco and a supermarket. Kitchen amenities are included with all but studios.

Studio – The smallest of rooms with two double beds and one bath.

Arrecifes (4 people) – Comfy design includes two bedrooms with a double bed in each.

Arrecifes (6 people) – Two-bedroom design with three double beds to allow more guests.

Master Suite (6 people) – The master in this three-bedroom has a walk-in closet and private bath. Double beds are in each bedroom.

Master Suite (8 people) – In this three-bedroom design, the master bedroom has a walk-in closet and bath.

Bella Leona Condos

Two-story building has three apartments on each floor. Kitchens fully equipped, separate dining and living areas. Highlights include interior garden, small pool and ranch with barbecue facilities.

Single – Two-bedroom with one king, two single beds and queen sofa bed. A private balcony is a highlight.

Queen – A two-bedroom unit with king and queen beds and queen sofa bed. A balcony offers great views.

Altos Vista Mar Villa

A three-bedroom design with master bedroom, double bed and bath. Two guest rooms have single beds and baths. Separate living and dining spaces, fully equipped kitchen, large terrace and swimming pool are highlights.
