Getting away from it all is easy at Costa Rica's Tango Mar Hotel Beach & Golf Resort, a luxury vacation spot with beach and forest that you can make your own. Tango Mar sits on its own, private reserve, where you can take advantage of on-site and off-site adventures in an exclusive atmosphere.
Overview
Beachfront Pool at Tango Mar
For travelers looking for an exclusive experience, Tango Mar offers the intimacy of a small but luxurious resort away from the crowds, where you can experience nature at your own pace. This Costa Rican resort sits on a 150-acre reserve of private beachfront on the Nicoya Peninsula that enjoys a microclimate in concert with its concept of privacy, providing an exclusive weather zone that's sunny and warm year-round.
Tango Mar offers many opportunities for guests to enjoy the perfect weather and unmatched beauty of Costa Rica with several resort-led excursions. Activities range from ATV tours, zip-lines and hiking to deep-sea fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding and more. Guests can work out the kinks in their short game on the resort's nine-hole golf course, which is trimmed with natural foliage and offers an ocean view for a unique experience. An on-site spa offers the opportunity to relieve sore muscles and pamper your skin with an array of spa services, including many different massages, facials, masks and wraps.
Of course, the greater Nicoya Peninsula has its attractions too, with many nature reserves and natural parks where you can spot some of the abundant wildlife. Costa Rica is a birdwatcher's paradise, with hundreds of species to note. With the area's warm waters, the region offers plenty of oceanic pursuits as well, including surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving and sports fishing.
Tango Mar accommodations range from spacious and well-appointed rooms and suites to private villas, all on the beachfront of course. Guests can relax amid the area's natural beauty on verandas, balconies and private patios offering views of ocean or forest preserve.
Cristobal is the name of the on-site restaurant, named for the Cristobal wood featured in its construction. Bamboo and a thatch roof complete the picture of a tropical setting that serves gourmet international and Costa Rican dishes. Enjoy an evening cocktail on the deck with an ocean view before heading inside for dinner. For lunch and beach refreshments, the El Pirata grill serves sandwiches, salads and light meals, along with drinks. The resort also offers catering services for events, including wedding receptions, with options for deluxe picnic tours and beach barbecues where you can eat by torchlight.

"Built into the side of a cliff at the south end of Penisula de Nicoya, Tango Mar is one of the nicest resorts I've ever stayed at. The scenery is beautiful (forests, waterfalls, ocean) and the accomodations excellent (the tropical suites are fabulous, but the hike up the stairs to reach them can be a killer in the heat and humidity; be forewarned if you're out of shape or have knee/leg problems). The resort offers golf, tennis, horseback riding, hikes, boogie boarding, snorkeling trips, and just about anything else you could desire (including A/C rooms with satellite TV). The infinity pools are spring-fed and extremely clean and pleasant WITHOUT being over-chlorinated. The resort doesn't suffer from a mosquito problem and I didn't get a bug bite the entire time I was there, but I still got to experience "wild" Costa Rica (numerous colorful birds, lizards, and even monkeys lounging in the trees on the premises). The restaurant is top notch, and while the menu is somewhat limited (maybe 12-15 entrees on the dinner menu) the food is excellently prepared and very reasonable (a 10-oz filet mignon as good as anything I've gotten in the United States was only $20). Last, but most definitely not least, the service leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. The staff at Tango Mar is exemplary in both their personalities and the execution of their duties. Top notch, I will most definitely be back."

"Although it was under minor renovations when I visited last fall, Tango Mar is a lovely resort. The villas are particularly lovely and the service is above and beyond. The walk to the waterfall is very scenic but somewhat disappointing upon arrival."
