Animals range from cattle and pigs to turkeys and chickens. The ranch also boasts several fruit trees and a guest swimming pool that draws its water from natural springs.
Mornings begin with ranch hands milking the cows, which provide fresh milk for each morning's breakfast. From the reception area, you can watch cowboys working with horses in nearby corrals, getting ready for horseback riding tours, a favorite activity at the hacienda.
Hacienda Guachipelin participates in a variety of eco-friendly programs, including conservation and reforestation of indigenous trees. Solar-powered water heaters provide hot water for guest rooms, while the kitchen uses an energy-saving heater. Drinking water comes from the same natural spring that fills the pool.

"After a long trip from the airport in Alajuela, we finally arrived at Hacienda Guachipelin. Our room was big and comfy with beautiful gardens. We went to the thermal mud pool and had an amazing relaxing time. We also went tubing down the river, very fun activity. We loved breakfast there in the hotel, love gallo pinto. Will recommend this to my friends."

"Arrived late after flight delayed but still managed to get a lovely pizza before bed. We were greeted with a welcome drink by the friendly staff. As my first night of my first time in Costa Rica it met my approval and expectations. I sat outside before bed listening to the cicadas and other beasties of the night and fell in love with it all. A little gecko outside of the bathroom had a chirp now and then. Some say the accommodation is basic, but we found it very clean, quiet and very comfortable and more than adequate for a 1 night stay on our very hectic tour......it's a WORKING Hacienda Eco lodge...so bear that in mind and its Costa Rica - nature is all around you and insects are plentiful.....if you go in dry season it will be very hot and dusty but they've a lovely cool pool to dip in. I was disappointed not to get to do more here but our tour only had the horse trek and tubing allocated for time so would love to go back and see more. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here, much rather this enchanting Hacienda than a bland chain type hotel where they all are decorated the same no matter where it is located in the world. Pura Vida"

"Let me start by saying that my husband and I presently own 3 horses. I have raised horses my entire life. We visited this hotel in August 2012. The hotels is nice, but avoid even looking at their horses, let alone riding the poor things. In the morning, their horses are brought up to a feeding "shelf" where they are given about 10 minutes to eat some unknown type of mash or grain. They then are hurried over to some awful looking hay for a few more minutes and that's all they get to eat! I have read the comments on here from the manager stating that his horses are checked by a Vet every 3 months. My response to that is he would be wise to obtain the services from another Vet. A healthy horse eats 10 lbs of feed a day. There is absolutely no way that these horses eat even close to that. We did observe that they are rotated for the rides, but they were not let out into a pasture at any time. Oddly we saw a horse and mule in a pasture near the National Park that appeared healthy and fat. This led us to believe that their horses could be well taken care of at this facility if they decided to care and feed them all in the same manner. On another note, I have raised and trained horses for over 30 years and the horses at this hotel appear to be extremely afraid of the workers around them. All the workers carry around large sticks to move the horses from one area to another. The horses shy away and are extremely afraid of the workers. Having trained many horses, I can say with certainty that horses don't react to handlers the way their horses do unless they have been abused. Our son rides a roping horse that is used on a working cattle ranch and none of the horses are thin. The excuse from the manager in some of his responses that they are working horses doesn’t make sense! We visited the facility during the “low” season I’d hate to see how the horses are treated during the “high” season. On a final note, with all the money the hotel makes on their ‘tours’, surely a larger budget could be allocated for feeding these horses? All the workers seem to be "fat and happy". Maybe it's time that the workers go on a diet and more money be spent on feeding the horses?? "

"It was an amazing experience the staff has lots of patience. We were four girls and we were so afraid to do the canopy but we did it with the help of your staff. However we paid $40dollars for the cd of pictures of the entire day and when we came back home we were missing the most important pictures (the canopy pictures) u think u have them saved somewhere? But over all the day was great highly recommend it."

"Setting for the hotel is fantastic and lots to do. The guys with the horses very informative and helpful, and the people at reception also turned out to be very good. just a pity the whole overall package let down by the attitude of waiters in restaurant. Slow to take order and on one occasion real attiude problem. Noticed a distinct change in service when the owner appeared one luchtime. On the whole (if you don't care too much about food) an amazing place.Wildlife , hot springs and wildlife fantastic.Rooms clean and roomy."
