Extremely beautiful and a wonderful place to explore, Cartago offers a lot of recreational activities and entertainment. Take a drive through this stunning region of the country and you will spot numerous wonderful stops set up along the way. Numerous sodas and restaurants can be found in Cartago and the Central Valley, where you can grab a drink. In Turrialba, you can find a number of them. One reason for this is Turrialba is a popular destination with tourists, who come here to white water raft down the Rio Reventazón or the Rio Pacuare.
There are not too many touristy bars in Cartago. However, there are a number of places where you can get a drink along with your meals. There are plenty of accommodations and sodas in town, where you can get a hot delicious meal along with a beer or coffee. Most towns and villages in Cartago have plenty of restaurants, eateries and sodas, which serve alcoholic drinks such as beer and guaro—a distilled sugarcane alcoholic drink that is colorless.
Like the rest of Costa Rica, the restaurants in Cartago also serve an array of food ranging from the continental Chinese and Italian dishes to delicious local Tico fare like casado. Chicken, beef and fish are served in most restaurants, with some places now even serving vegetarian meals. Freshwater fish is very common here, due to the town’s close proximity to the Rios Reventazon and Pacuare. Sodas serve mostly Tico grub, lots of sodas and pizzas and burgers for people who are on the go. There are also several bakeries and a number of grocery stores in town where you can grab a quick bite.
