Entertainment in Alajuela
Alajuela offers a lot of recreational activities and entertainment. It is the ideal region to stay in if you need a quiet escape and mellow surroundings. This province has many quaint towns and villages, where you can experience the authentic Tico way of life. It enjoys a close proximity to San Jose, yet it is far away enough from the noisy city living. Lush and green, farms and plantations can be found all over Alajuela, while to the north lies Costa Rica’s most famous landmark, the Volcan Arenal.
There are numerous restaurants in Alajuela, with many located near the popular tourist destinations in the province. In Alajuela city, you will find a variety of restaurants from inexpensive sodas to fast food outlets and fine dining establishments. Sodas and smaller restaurants serve a variety of dishes from beef and chicken to fish and seafood. Many of these sodas in Alajuela are situated in idyllic locations and are a great place to have a quick bite. Also, in some of the spa resorts in Alajuela, the restaurants serve macrobiotic and vegetarian cuisine only to help patrons stay fit and healthy.
If you want to relax in a spa, head up north to the Ciudad Quesada San Carlos area to soothe your mind and body in the thermal hot water springs and mud baths. You can also find a number of spas at La Fortuna de San Carlos, the getaway to the Volcan Arenal. There are a number of hot springs there, with resorts and lodges built around them. Visit also the famous Tabacon Hot Springs, which provide some incredible views of Arenal Volcano.
A great vacation destination if you enjoy nature, Alajuela also offers the worldly traveler plenty of modern comforts and entertainment. If you enjoy gambling, there are a couple of casinos in the Alajuela where you can try your luck. In Alajuela, bars can be found almost anywhere. If you want to share a drink with the locals, visit the more traditional towns in Alajuela like Orotina, Palmares and San Ramon. Alajuela city has a number of popular bars and nightclubs, where one can hang out as well. Beer and guaro are the popular choices as they are affordable. Imperial and Pilsen are two of the most well known beer brands in Costa Rica. Imported beers like Heineken are also available; however, they are a bit more expensive.
