North Puntarenas comprises 425 kilometers of coastline and a bountiful ocean views that make for a breathtaking wedding destination. If you prefer a quiet getaway for your nuptials, head to Mal Pais, a smaller, more private beach town that provides the peace and quiet you may want before your big day. For more intimate beachside weddings, Mal Pais may be ideal, especially if you and your partner prefer the sound of waves to the sounds of a bumping club at night.
Jaco's iconic black sands make for arresting wedding photos, while the town itself provides plenty of clubs, restaurants and nightlife to enjoy during your stay here. Although small, Manuel Antonio remains one of Costa Rica's most popular national parks, and for good reason. You and your spouse-to-be can enjoy barefoot strolls along the beach at sunrise on your wedding day or a post-wedding day hike through the thick jungles of authentic rainforest. Best of all, if you have your wedding nearby, you can just start your honeymoon here the day after!
Home to a wide variety of beautiful birds, including talkative scarlet macaws (about 150 nest here), Carara Biological Reserve is a perfect getaway for birders, but also provides access to a wide variety of arresting Costa Rican habitats. You and your wedding guests can explore this area by land or water - tours are available along the Rio Grande de Tarcoles, where you may spot a chatty toucan or monkey peering out from the tree branches above. The river also feeds into several mangroves throughout the reserve - these unique waterways feature vegetation with submerged roots and stems, all leisurely swaying back and forth in the soft currents. When explored in a kayak made for two, these mangroves make for quite the romantic pre-nuptial escape for you and your lover.
